Drawing on a working population of 1.3 million, 6,000 of which are graduates in the creative, digital and artistic sectors, Sheffield certainly has the man power for a new creative army.
With the development of major schemes in the city’s Digital Square Mile including Electric Works and the city’s Digital Campus it seems that the digital sector is here to stay.
Long standing resident Workstation has been a dynamic centre within the digital and creative scene in Sheffield. Established in 1993 the Workstation provides a wide range of production and office spaces and is home to over 60 tenant companies ranging from producers of film and TV, photography, music, dance and theatre to designers of buildings, graphics, computer games and new media solutions.
The distinctive Workstation is linked to the prestigious independent Showroom Cinema which gives the opportunity to see the latest films and innovations in digital cinema as well as meet creative professionals with regular network meetings and important industry conferences such as Sheffield Doc Fest.
Bill Lawrence, Creative Director at of Showroom/Workstation says, “The region’s creative sector has always punched well above its weight and continues to hold its own on a national and international stage. At Showroom/Workstation we are here to champion the advance of the creative and digital industries and we are delighted to introduce local companies and guest experts as part of digital week 2009”
